Abstract
Uterine fibroids are benign tumors arising from smooth muscle cells and connective tissue cells and are the
most commonly diagnosed tumors of the female reproductive system. One of the methods of treating fibroids is radiofrequency ablation (RFA), which has proven itself as an effective alternative method. This procedure is aimed at uterine fibroids, while preserving healthy uterine tissue. RFA produces a thermal effect (60-80 ° C) in the affected tissues, causing apoptosis of tissue cells by thermal coagulation, vascular thrombosis as a result of biological thermal effects in the blood vessels supplying the fibroids, causing ischemic necrosis and atrophy, inactivating estrogen and progesterone receptors in the fibroids, preventing hormone-dependent proliferation of the tumor. In addition to the existing proven advantages, the severity of symptoms and the dynamics of patients' quality of life before and after RFA are currently being carefully studied. The aim of the study was to assess the quality of life of patients before and after radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of uterine fibroids in women of reproductive age and premenopausal women. A survey was conducted among 52 women with uterine fibroids aged 25 to 52 years using the UFS-QOL questionnaire. The UFS-QOL questionnaire is a highly informative tool for assessing the severity of uterine fibroid symptoms and the quality of life of women who underwent radiofrequency ablation. According to the survey results, statistically significant dynamics were obtained in terms of regression of uterine fibroid symptoms and improvement of all parameters of the quality of life of the examined.
